On Sept. 20, the Department held it's annual Beach House picnic. From the headcount, most of the chemistry majors were able to attend and seemed to enjoy the time away from the main campus. The Department's "Extracurricular Activities" committee (chaired by Prof. Mabrouk) was in charge of the party which upheld the tradition of making certain everyone in attendance had more than enough to eat. To wrap up the semester, the Extracurricular Activities committee threw a Christmas party that was well attended by the chemistry faculty and majors. Professor Mabrouk provided many homemade goodies that started many of our waistlines toward their holiday goals!!!!
The department submitted it's self study by the 15 February 1996 deadline for the Commission on Higher Education review of physical sciences in the 4-year schools. In summary, the department is in good shape and no major problems are expected.
