1. Biology 208, Sec. 01, Lecture: MWF.
10:00-10:50 AM Duckett Hall 101
2. Objectives of the course: The objectives of this course include: an
understanding of the historical and philosophical background as a basis for
understanding present day evolutionary thinking; to teach the genetic
background of evolution, to understand the basic elements of microevolution,
speciation, and macroevolution; and to review our understanding of the origin
and history of life on Earth.
3. Grade Determination: There are
three (3) tests in this course: Each is a non-cumulative essay test worth 100
pts for a total of 300 points. The test
is based on my lectures presented in class, videos shown in class, text and
outside readings. In addition I require
three book reports worth 34pts each for a total of 100 pts. 90% of your grade
is a % of your total points earned/400 X 100.
The remaining 10% is based on class participation and class
attendance. Grading is on a 4 point
scale with a = 90+, B=80-89 etc.
4. Lecture Attendance-Lectures
start promptly on the hour. You are
expected to attend. At the beginning of
each class, I will pass around a sheet for each student to sign. If you are present but do not sign the sheet
you will be counted as absent. Class
attendance is expected. If you miss 20%
of the classes (9) for what ever reason, I can give you a grade of F
(Failure because of excess absences).
5. Test Make-up Policy-Failure to
take a lecture test results in an automatic zero unless you have a valid
excuse. Assigned test are mandatory;
unless authorized to the contrary by the professor, such test takes precedence
over all other duties or activity
6. Students with special Needs:
If you have any identifiable learning disability which requires special
teaching methods, testing procedures etc, please let me know at the beginning
of the semester. I need a letter from
Dr. Barbara Zaremba before I can provide any additional special help.
7. Honor Code: In this course, all
outside written work and exams is to be done by individual students without
help form any other students.
