Research Interests:

  • Science Education: I am interested designing learning activities which promote the development of abstract thinking in both traditional and non-traditional students. As a 2000-2001 Carnegie Scholar I learned appropriate techniques to approach this research problem in a scholarly, systematic fashion.
  • Vision research: I am studying the structural and functional properties of salamander and Xenopus opsins and their promoters. This research is done predominantly by undergraduate and graduate biology education students and involves non-radioactive library screening, basic cloning techniques, eukaryotic cell transfection, immunohistochemistry and creating transgenic xenopus.
