Welcome Class of 2018!

 

Completing the required assessments is an important step in your preparation for matriculation at The Citadel. Please note that some assessments are required for all students, while others pertain only to certain courses or programs of study. Therefore, please read the following information carefully.

 

Note: The instructions for the specific placement exams, as well as login instructions for CitLearn, can be found by choosing from the menu to the left.

 

The information on these pages is current, as of 05/29/14.

 

Required for ALL Students

All incoming students, regardless of major course of study or transfer credits, must complete these three items.

 

1. Summer Reading Program & Ethics Writing Sample:

  • Opens on June 2nd - Due by August 1st
  • Provides a chance to demonstrate your writing skills and begin thinking about ethical decision making.

2. Career Assessment:

  • Opens on June 2nd - Due by August 1st
  • This program helps you determine and explore careers that best fit your interests and values.

3. AlcoholEdu & Haven Programs:

  • Opens on July 7, 2014 - Due by August 15, 2014
  • AlcoholEdu – This program is a non-opinionated, science-based course taken by thousands of cadets and college students each year. Whether or not you drink alcohol, AlcoholEdu empowers students to make well-informed decision and provides strategies to help keep you and your friends safe.
  • Haven – This program educates students about the elements of healthy relationships, the importance of sexual consent, and the role of bystanders in creating safe, healthy communities.

Required - Depending on Course of Study

 

The ability to read critically, to write clearly, and to reason quantitatively provides a strong foundation for academic success at the college level.

 

Therefore, Citadel students MUST take the Placement Exams required for their major course of study:

 

Mathematics Placement Exam:
  • Opens on June 2nd - Due by August 1st
  • For incoming students who are majoring in: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry (B.S.), Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or who either are pursuing a minor or are in a scholarship program that requires MATH 131 (Analytic Geometry and Calculus I).
  • **For CSI Session 2 students who elected to take MATH 119 as their first choice, the math placement test must be completed by June 20.

Foreign Language Placement Exam:
  • Opens on June 2nd - Due by August 1st
  • French, German, or Spanish placement exams for all incoming students, except for Engineering and Education Majors.
