The ability to read critically, to write clearly, and to reason quantitatively provide a strong foundation for academic success at the college level.  Therefore, all Citadel students MUST take composition and mathematics courses, regardless of their major course of study.  In order to ensure your academic success, you will be placed in these courses by placement exams. Foreign language is also required at The Citadel, so students will take a foreign language placement exam as well.  Please see the outline below to better understand the assessment requirements at The Citadel:

All first-time college students (full-time and part-time admitted freshmen):

• MUST take the Computer Competency Exam and the Learning and Academic Retention Assessments.
• MUST review the Mathematics and Foreign Language placement exams’ instructions which explain which students must either take the exam or be exempt. Please review their specific information by clicking on the links to the left.
