Citadel Celebrates Air Force's 62nd Birthday
On September 17th, Air Force ROTC Detachment 765 welcomed Colonel John Allison, Citadel class of 1943, as the guest speaker for a celebration honoring the 62nd birthday of the Air Force. Colonel Allison, a veteran of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, spoke to the cadets about his time at The Citadel and his career in the Air Force.
A native of Albany, GA., Col Allison was admitted to The Citadel in 1939 and was honorably discharged in 1942 to serve in WWII. He was assigned as an Army Air Corps pilot, flying B-24 and B-25 bombers in the Pacific Theater. Following the war, he returned to The Citadel in 1946 as a veteran student and graduated in 1947 with a degree in business administration. After graduating, Col Allison returned to active duty in the newly formed Air Force, serving as a bomber pilot flying B-47s and B-52s until retiring in 1969.
Col Allison's awards include the Distinguished Flying Cross with 3 oak leaf clusters, a Bronze Star, and the Air Medal with 13 oak leaf clusters. He was also awarded the American and Pacific Theater ribbons and Victory ribbon.

Cadets Participate in Warrior Day
Air Force ROTC cadets recently participated in a "Warrior Day" competition as part of their weekly Air Force Leadership Laboratory. Teams of cadets competed in an 8-person relay consisting of push-ups, low crawl, crunches, an Airman's Manual challenge, and an ammo run. The winning team received cadet wing coins, presented by the cadet wing commander, while the losing team received the honor of washing "Annette," an Air Force F-4 on display by the parade field on The Citadel campus.
