The “Holy City,” known for the trademark historic church steeples of the city’s skyline, routinely tops the lists of best small cities in the United States. With more people moving here each year, Charleston is the place to be in South Carolina. Our robust F&B scene, which includes a steady annual circuit of nationally recognized food and culture festivals, continues to headline the long list of reasons to live here. Find a seat among its many outdoor terraces for a drink and some fresh oysters.
Visitors commonly discuss the city’s stately homes, cobblestone streets, and waterfront views. In fact, The Citadel’s newly minted Swain Boating Center allows access to Ashley River right from campus. Don’t have a boat? No problem, faculty and staff can rent a boat right from campus.
What’s Happening?
It seems like there’s always something going on in Charleston. The annual Spoleto Festival USA is the premier arts festival in the country. The Cooper River Bridge Run has been called the best 10-K race in the world. And every March, top chefs and fashion designers flock to the Lowcountry for the Charleston Wine + Food Festival and Charleston Fashion Week.
The Right Feel
The Citadel’s quaint and secure campus will offer the ideal lifestyle in the bustling city of Charleston. Charleston is big enough to support a vibrant cultural life – huge concerts and small clubs, dance troupes and opera, historic sites and professional sports – and small enough for faculty and staff to feel right at home from their very first day.
In fact, right next door, you’ll find Hampton Park. Hampton Park is one of the City of Charleston’s largest parks, with the largest floral displays of any park in the city. This neighborhood park has a rich history recently documented through a project of the Charleston Horticultural Society, an audio walking tour called Layers of the Landscape. The physical fitness trail is a popular spot for our employees. Just a short walk from campus, employees will spend their lunch breaks walking the park’s many trails.
